We are headed to Utah for Thanksgiving this year. I will be "running" a 6k with a lot of my family Thanksging morning. Snapped this picture out on the bike trail while "running". I heard that people feel sad when they see birds flying south for the winter because they know there is a long winter ahead before the birds come again.

Quote-unquote running? You are too stinkin' funny. xo
yep, that sad person is me. although I have been reading a wonderful book called 'settled in the wild' that has lots of reflections on the natural world... the author discusses this phenomenon, too. I can't explain it as well as she does, but she talks about how we forget sometimes that time/the seasons aren't linear, but rather circular. winter *will not* go on forever; the seasons will circle through again and again. how, she muses, a bird doesn't think of "before" and "after," but time is one big circle of seasons. my summary sucks and is probably confusing, but anyway, that thought comforted me.
ps, good luck "running."
