Organized Exercise

So this past week I went to two workout classes offered by campus rec. The first was Turbo Kick and the other was Zumba. As I was packing my gym bag the morning of Turbo Kick I was reflecting on how much organized exercise I had participated in before. The answer would be: not much. The last probably being the high school basketball team. (I guess I did a yoga class my senior year of high school, so that sorta counts because I only sorta attended.) I was a bit nervous and I actually decided to wear my cool roller derby tee shirt because I wanted the other kids to think I was cool. It's like I'm 14 again.

But once I got there things got much better. There were a ton of people in the class at all different fitness levels. The instructor was fun, but not ditsy and she was pouring sweat just like the rest of us. There is also something to be said about a lot of people doing the exact same thing at the exact same time. Like when we would all kick and jump together and it would make a big "boom" on the wood floor. It's exhilarating. It's like the high I get when I play music with a huge orchestra. It's fun to do be synchronized.

I didn't like Zumba as much as I liked Turbo Kick. Mostly because I felt like an idiot shaking my hips and butt, and I also felt like I wasn't working very had because I couldn't figure out how to make my feet move like the instructors. She also turned down the lights because it's supposed to feel like a "dance party" instead of an aerobics class. So I couldn't see and I couldn't do the moves.

So, I have accomplished by goal of working out 4x a week for the entire month of January and I'm feeling good. The scale won't move an inch, but I feel good.

My sister, Jana

said I should blog more as part of my new year's resolutions. That would make the total number of resolutions three.

1) Average a 4 day week at the gym (I already accomplished this in December)
2) Talk to my friends more often (got a new web cam from Santa that I like to use on Skype)
3) Blog more

We had a great Christmas. Stayed in Nebraska, ate too much food and watched way too much T.V.; it was so nice. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle this semester. It's going to be a doosy. I got called to be the ward choir director so this semester I am:

1) Taking 7 grad school credits
2) Teaching 54 students a week
3) Have two church callings that take an extra two and a half hours every week on top of the three hours of church on Sunday
4) Going to the gym 4 days a week
5) Continuing my Suzuki mentorship which requires around 2 1/2 hours of homework a week

I am already praying for discipline. I think the key to this semester will be prayer, gym, eating breakfast and packing a good lunch. I got into a nasty Starbucks drive-thru habit last semester and I'm determined to not let it happen again.

I am going to rock 2011, I hope you do as well!
